Product Information
A brilliant head made from a very unusual material from the Australian bush with beautiful markings to give your metal flute a very special character. It is ideal for playing mid 19th century music, especially for works of Theobald Boem, who is known to have liked the idea of preserving the sound of wood even on metal flutes. He used phosphorous bronze to make flutes and alto flutes because it's sound is the closest to wood. Iron wood is very hard and dense and makes a powerful sound. This head is extremely flexible with terrific staccato and despite of having a forceful low register it plays extremely well all the way up, even in pianissimo, but naturally with the distinctive warmth of a wooden flute.
