Product Information
Developed from the chalumeau in c as means to start very young children on clarinet, the low register is essentially a c-major scale with fingerings very similar to a recorder or a Boehm clarinet. It has 4 keys and over blows like a real clarinet and therefore must be classified as a clarinet in g and like the Viennese "Schrammel-clarinet" it has a surprisingly sweet tone. It comes with a specially designed Zinner mouthpiece and uses soft standard  German B-flat clarinet reeds that are shortened. The reed can be fixed by a simple ligature or by the old fashioned string method but for very small children a special flexible Teflon ring can be used to make it very simple to  hold the reed in place where it works best. We can offer you a choice of several brands of factory shortened reeds or you can simply shorten them yourself with garden secateurs.
